In Windrose / ウィンドローズ, what I wondered about most was not the final S Tier weapons, but whether it was okay to upgrade the weapon I had right now to Epic. The weapons you can find in the Coastal Jungle are limited, and in the Foothills, Epic-upgrade materials are expensive. So this article focuses on what to use in your current biome, which weapons to upgrade to Epic, and what to switch to in the late game.
Quick summary.
- From the early game through the Foothills, 千切りのレイピア / Rapier of a Thousand Cuts and 信頼できるピストル / Reliable Pistol are easy to use
- For Epic upgrades, limiting yourself to one main melee weapon + one support gun makes it less likely that you will waste materials
- In the late game, 破壊のレイピア / Rapier of Devastation, 疫病のハルバード / Plague Halberd, and 信頼できるマスケット銃 / Reliable Musket are candidates
- Acquisition has strong random elements, so do not build a route around guaranteed fixed drops
- DPS is provisional and based on DB values. It is not a full measurement that includes attack animations, reloads, and stamina

Assumptions for This Article
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Date checked | April 27, 2026 |
| Official checked version | 0.10.0.3.104-256f9653 |
| DB check | Windrose Database / Windrose Version 0.10.0 / Last Updated: April 25, 2026 |
| Main references | official Steam news, Windrose Database / gaming.tools, Method |
| Note | Because the game is in Early Access, weapon performance, acquisition methods, and Japanese names may change |
At the time of checking, the official Steam news post “Connectivity Fixes, Direct IP Added & Save Backup System Update” listed version 0.10.0.3.104-256f9653. The weapon list in the Japanese version of Windrose Database showed Windrose Version 0.10.0 and Last Updated: April 25, 2026.
Official announcements also mention the policy of randomizing loot. If you read this with the assumption that “digging here always gives this weapon,” it is easy for your expectations to drift from reality, so this article does not make definitive claims about fixed acquisition locations. I describe acquisition at roughly the level of “aim for it from POIs, treasure chests, ruins, enemy drops, or crafting in that biome tier.”
How Japanese Names Are Handled
For Japanese names, I generally prioritize the notation used by the Japanese version of Windrose Database. To make the article easier to cross-check with English guides, I also include the English name on first mention.
When there are notation differences, I handle them as follows.
- DB notation: 千切りのレイピア / Rapier of a Thousand Cuts
- Official Steam announcement notation: 千の斬撃のレイピア
- Notation used in this article: 千切りのレイピア
For items I could not confirm in the Japanese DB, I do not force a translation and instead write “Japanese name to be confirmed.”
First, the Conclusion: Recommended Weapons by Phase
| Progression phase | Recommended melee | Recommended gun | When to switch | Why |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Early Coastal Jungle | Rapier line, Cutlass, or 千切りのレイピア / Rapier of a Thousand Cuts if you find it | Pistol line, or 信頼できるピストル / Reliable Pistol if you find it | Until your copper gear and weapon crafter’s workshop are ready | Materials are light, and with Precision-line weapons it is easier to level melee and guns together |
| Late Coastal Jungle to early Foothills | 千切りのレイピア / Rapier of a Thousand Cuts, Sturdy Rapier (Japanese name to be confirmed) | 信頼できるピストル / Reliable Pistol, ドレイクの二連式ピストル / Drake’s Double-Barreled Pistol | Once Foothills materials and Lv6+ upgrades are in sight | Bleed DoT, a three-shot pistol, and the Vulnerable debuff make it easier to handle both exploration and bosses |
| Late Foothills to Epic-upgrade stage | Prioritize Epic for 千切りのレイピア / Rapier of a Thousand Cuts | Epic ドレイクの二連式ピストル / Drake’s Double-Barreled Pistol, Epic 信頼できるマスケット銃 / Reliable Musket | When you start using Tumbaga Ingots | Epic effects improve durability, debuffs, and ranged damage, so they stay useful up to the entrance of the late game |
| Late Cursed Swamps | 破壊のレイピア / Rapier of Devastation, 疫病のハルバード / Plague Halberd | 信頼できるマスケット銃 / Reliable Musket, ドレイクの二連式ピストル / Drake’s Double-Barreled Pistol | Once swamp materials, plague weapons, and Lv11+ upgrades are in sight | Self-healing, mark consumption, AoE, and ranged DPS all come together, making them suitable for the current EA late game |
| Current EA final gear | 破壊のレイピア / Rapier of Devastation, 疫病のハルバード / Plague Halberd | 信頼できるマスケット銃 / Reliable Musket, ドレイクの二連式ピストル / Drake’s Double-Barreled Pistol | When you narrow your build down to one line | They also rank high in Method’s current tiers, and their DB performance and synergies are strong |
If I had to pick just one roughly, I would choose 千切りのレイピア / Rapier of a Thousand Cuts from early to midgame, and 破壊のレイピア / Rapier of Devastation in the late game. For a ranged build, building around 信頼できるマスケット銃 / Reliable Musket makes the choices easier.
How to Read the Rankings
I do not put much trust in sorting only by attack power. In Windrose, the numbers quickly fall apart because of reload waits, stamina running out, and the short openings bosses give you. For melee weapons, I look at attack animations, stamina consumption, DoT, special attacks, and self-healing. For guns, I look at single-shot power, reloads, number of shots, and debuff contribution. On top of that, I put a lot of weight on “is this worth making at this exact stage?”
That said, DPS/DPM here is not fully measured. The evaluations in this article are provisional evaluations based on DB performance, existing tiers, and practical-play synergy. Damage per second including reloads, waiting for stamina recovery, and whether you can land a heavy attack during a boss opening all vary by play environment. In my own play, from around the Foothills onward I started seeing more weapons that had high table damage but got me hit before I could land them, so I value healing and debuffs quite highly.
In Method’s current tier list, Rapier of Devastation, Plague Halberd, and Reliable Musket are treated as S-Tier-equivalent, while Rapier of a Thousand Cuts, Drake’s Double-Barreled Pistol, Soul Eater, and similar weapons are treated as A-Tier-equivalent. This article does not stray far from that, while giving a little extra weight to ease of use in the early to midgame.
Phase 1: Recommended Weapon Ranking for Early Coastal Jungle
At this stage, I prioritize “light material costs,” “ease of use,” and “leading into the next weapon” over final gear. Rapiers, pistols, and muskets are easy to line up under Precision, so they are good for players who do not want to split their melee and gun progression stats.
| Rank | Japanese name | English name | Weapon type | Progression stat | Why it is strong | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 千切りのレイピア | Rapier of a Thousand Cuts | Melee / Rapier | Precision B | Can apply up to 5 stacks of Bleed; at max stacks, it becomes a 25 × 5 = 125 damage/sec DoT | Acquisition has random elements. Prepare alternatives assuming you may not find it |
| 2 | 信頼できるピストル | Reliable Pistol | Ranged / Pistol | Precision S | Because it can fire 3 shots without reloading, it is easy to clear small enemies and stay safe while exploring | Ammo consumption can increase easily |
| 3 | レイピア | Rapier | Melee / Rapier | Precision B | Easy to handle as a basic weapon, and it lets you start building into Precision | Has no unique effect, so switch if you find a good Rare weapon |
| 4 | カトラス | Cutlass | Melee / Saber | Agility A | Applies “Aim!” on hit, letting you set up a bonus for the next shot | It leans toward Agility, so it does not fully mesh with Precision guns |
| 5 | ピストル | Pistol | Ranged / Pistol | Precision B | An easy-to-use ranged slot from the early game | Switch if you find a Reliable weapon |
Early On, Lean Toward Precision
In the early game, it is easier to align your melee and gun lines than to spread stats widely. If you spread half-heartedly into Agility or Strength here, the guns you find and the melee stats you have raised may not mesh, which feels bad. Rapiers, pistols, and muskets are easy to group around Precision, and that also makes equipment-upgrade decisions easier.
If you find 千切りのレイピア / Rapier of a Thousand Cuts, it is a hit. However, because official announcements also mention loot randomization, I do not recommend moving on the assumption that it has a fixed acquisition route. If you do not find it, proceeding with a regular Rapier or Reliable Pistol is fine.
Phase 2: Recommended Weapon Ranking for Late Coastal Jungle to Early Foothills
After defeating Thomas Richards, you start to see Foothills materials and Lv6+ upgrades. From this point, instead of simply using whatever weapon you picked up, you begin thinking about which weapons to upgrade and bring into the Foothills.
| Rank | Weapon | Evaluation reason | Verification grade |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 千切りのレイピア / Rapier of a Thousand Cuts | The 5-stack Bleed DoT is strong in the early to midgame. When upgraded to Epic, it can recover temporary health from bleed damage | DB-value-based + existing tier reference |
| 2 | 信頼できるピストル / Reliable Pistol | Because it fires 3 shots, it is easy to use while exploring, fighting onboard, and handling small-number encounters. Precision S is also excellent | DB-value-based |
| 3 | ドレイクの二連式ピストル / Drake’s Double-Barreled Pistol | It can fire two shots, and the 15% Vulnerable effect after upgrading to Epic stays strong for late-game combos | DB-value-based + synergy evaluation |
| 4 | 信頼できるマスケット銃 / Reliable Musket | High piercing value, Precision S, and fast reload speed let it become the main weapon for ranged builds | DB-value-based + existing tier reference |
| 5 | Sturdy Rapier (Japanese name to be confirmed) | The expanded Perfect Block window and +20% critical damage at Epic are strong | English DB-value-based / Japanese name to be confirmed |
Rapier of a Thousand Cuts Is a Big Early-to-Midgame Hit
According to the DB, 千切りのレイピア / Rapier of a Thousand Cuts has 380 attack power / 125 piercing / Precision B at Item Level 15. Its effect applies Bleed when it deals damage, up to 5 stacks, with each stack dealing 25 damage per second.
If you only look at max stacks, that becomes a 25 × 5 = 125 damage/sec DoT. Accurate DPS including attack animations needs real measurement, but because you can apply DoT and then create distance, its strength is that it can safely chip down bosses and tough enemies.
Drake’s Double-Barreled Pistol Is Strong as a Support Weapon
ドレイクの二連式ピストル / Drake’s Double-Barreled Pistol has 380 attack power / 420 piercing / Precision B at Item Level 15. Its defining feature is that it can fire two shots, and its Epic effect makes shots apply “Vulnerable,” increasing all damage dealt to the target by 15%.
Rather than judging it only by standalone DPS, it is easier to evaluate as a weapon that applies Vulnerable before you land a big attack from a strong melee weapon. It also pairs well with Rapier of Devastation in the late game.
Phase 3: Recommended Weapon Ranking for Late Foothills to the Epic-Upgrade Stage
Late Foothills is the stage where you use Tumbaga Ingots and similar materials to upgrade Rare weapons to Epic. The materials are not cheap, so instead of upgrading every weapon you pick up to Epic, it is better to choose only the ones that fit your main build.
| Epic-upgrade priority | Weapon name | Reason | Recommended build | Next switch target |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 千切りのレイピア / Rapier of a Thousand Cuts | Can recover temporary health through bleed damage, increasing early-to-midgame stability | Precision rapier build, bleed build | Rapier of Devastation becomes a candidate from Cursed Swamps onward |
| 2 | ドレイクの二連式ピストル / Drake’s Double-Barreled Pistol | The 15% Vulnerable effect raises the damage output of other weapons | Precision melee + pistol build | Continues as a support weapon even in late game |
| 3 | 信頼できるマスケット銃 / Reliable Musket | High piercing, Precision S, fast reload, and +20% critical damage at Epic | Ranged musket build | Continues as a final-gear candidate |
| 4 | 信頼できるピストル / Reliable Pistol | Strong everyday performance thanks to its 3 shots | Exploration-focused Precision build | In late game, split roles with Drake’s or a musket |
| 5 | Sturdy Rapier (Japanese name to be confirmed) | Stable thanks to its Perfect Block focus, but not as sharp as late-game self-healing weapons | Rapier practice build | Rapier of Devastation |
Start with One Main Weapon and One Support Gun
Epic-upgrade priority depends on your build. If you are melee-focused, prioritize Rapier of a Thousand Cuts; if you are ranged-focused, prioritize Reliable Musket; and if you are planning for late-game combos, prioritize Drake’s Double-Barreled Pistol.
Personally, if you value stability while progressing, I think the order 千切りのレイピア / Rapier of a Thousand Cuts → ドレイクの二連式ピストル / Drake’s Double-Barreled Pistol is the easiest to understand. Only players who want to fight at range need to raise Reliable Musket first.
Phase 4: Recommended Weapon Ranking for Late Cursed Swamps
From Cursed Swamps onward, I treat these as current-EA late-game weapons. From here, weapons that were strong in the early to midgame are not always the strongest as-is. I judge them including self-healing, debuffs, special attacks, AoE, and ranged DPS.
| Rank | Weapon | English name | Main strengths | Verification grade |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 破壊のレイピア | Rapier of Devastation | Plague Marks, heavy-attack consumption, and 40% healing at Epic. It combines damage and durability | DB-value-based + existing tier reference |
| 2 | 疫病のハルバード | Plague Halberd | 2H damage, Plague Echo, special attack, and 35% healing at Epic | DB-value-based + existing tier reference |
| 3 | 信頼できるマスケット銃 | Reliable Musket | 600 piercing, Precision S, fast reload, and +20% critical damage at Epic | DB-value-based + existing tier reference |
| 4 | ドレイクの二連式ピストル | Drake’s Double-Barreled Pistol | The 15% Vulnerable effect boosts melee big hits and musket damage | DB-value-based + synergy evaluation |
| 5 | 千切りのレイピア | Rapier of a Thousand Cuts | Bleed DoT and temporary health recovery. Excellent from early to midgame through the entrance to late game | DB-value-based + existing tier reference |
| 6 | ソウルイーター | Soul Eater | Special attack that absorbs health from nearby enemies. Has Vitality synergy | DB-value-based + existing tier reference |
| 7 | ドラゴンブレス | Dragon’s Breath | 60% fire explosion, suited for group fights | DB-value-based |
| 8 | Plague Pistol (Japanese name to be confirmed) | Plague Pistol | Can be used as a support gun that heals part of the damage dealt | Method reference / Japanese name to be confirmed |
Rapier of Devastation Is the Core of Late-Game Precision Builds
According to the DB, 破壊のレイピア / Rapier of Devastation has 380 attack power / 210 piercing / Precision B at Item Level 15. Light attacks apply up to 8 “Plague Marks,” and heavy attacks consume the accumulated marks to deal bonus damage.
With its Epic effect, if a heavy attack consumes more than 5 marks, it heals 40% of your max health. In other words, it is not just a damage weapon; it is a weapon that stores marks, consumes them with heavy attacks, and heals while doing so.
If you apply Vulnerable with Drake’s Double-Barreled Pistol and then consume marks with Rapier of Devastation’s heavy attack, you can aim for both damage and healing. In real fights, if you get greedy for heavy attacks, you can simply miss and be done, so it is more stable to go for them only when you have stamina to spare.
Plague Halberd Is a Late-Game Candidate for Strength Builds
疫病のハルバード / Plague Halberd has 380 attack power / 355 striking / Strength B at Item Level 15. When it deals damage, it gains “Plague Echo,” and at 5 stacks, the special attack [F] becomes available.
With its Epic effect, the special attack instantly heals 35% of your max health. Its attack animations are heavy, but that also makes it strong in group fights and against enemies with large openings, and its appeal is that self-healing makes it easier to keep attacking.
Reliable Musket Is the Core of Ranged Builds
信頼できるマスケット銃 / Reliable Musket has 380 attack power / 600 piercing / Precision S at Item Level 15. It reloads faster than other muskets, and its Epic effect increases critical damage by 20%.
Gun DPS needs to be evaluated with reloads included. Even if single-shot power is high, sustained DPS falls if the reload is long, but this weapon’s fast reload speed directly contributes to practical damage. If you can accept the ammunition cost, it can serve as the core of a ranged-specialized build.
Recommended Final-Gear Sets
From here, I look at builds rather than individual weapons. Some armor and accessory names were not confirmed in the Japanese DB, so I mark Japanese names as to be confirmed where needed.
Precision Rapier Build
| Slot | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Melee | 破壊のレイピア / Rapier of Devastation |
| Gun | ドレイクの二連式ピストル / Drake’s Double-Barreled Pistol |
| Armor | Flibustier line 4P (Japanese name to be confirmed) |
| Necklace | Precision line |
| Rings | Special attack damage, critical, survivability support |
| Food | Precision line + Endurance line |
| Features | For single-target bosses. Vulnerable, Plague Marks, and 40% healing mesh well |
This is the easiest late-game set to understand. Apply Vulnerable with Drake’s, build up marks with Rapier of Devastation, and consume them with a heavy attack to heal. Full DPS still needs real measurement, but both DB performance and existing tiers support its strength.
Bleed Rapier Build
| Slot | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Melee | 千切りのレイピア / Rapier of a Thousand Cuts |
| Gun | 信頼できるピストル / Reliable Pistol or ドレイクの二連式ピストル / Drake’s Double-Barreled Pistol |
| Armor | Conquistador 2P + Pikeman 2P, etc. (Japanese names to be confirmed) |
| Features | Safely chips enemies down by maintaining Bleed. Strong from early to midgame through the entrance to late game |
It is more accurate to view 千切りのレイピア / Rapier of a Thousand Cuts not as the absolute strongest late-game weapon, but as an excellent weapon from early to midgame through the entrance to late game. If you can maintain 5 Bleed stacks, the DoT is strong, and after upgrading to Epic it also has temporary health recovery.
2H Halberd Build
| Slot | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Melee | 疫病のハルバード / Plague Halberd |
| Gun | ドレイクの二連式ピストル / Drake’s Double-Barreled Pistol, or Plague Pistol (Japanese name to be confirmed) |
| Armor | Pikeman line 4P (Japanese name to be confirmed) |
| Features | Group fights, self-healing, and heavy hits. Use it with a Strength focus |
The halberd build is for players who value single heavy hits and special attacks over light movement. I would like to measure the special-attack rotation rate, how easy heavy attacks are to land, and stamina consumption, but I personally rate the 35% healing at Epic very highly. Even if the animations are somewhat heavy, the value of being able to keep attacking is large.
Ranged Musket Build
| Slot | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Gun | 信頼できるマスケット銃 / Reliable Musket |
| Melee | Rapier line, or a light melee weapon for staying safe |
| Armor | Marksman line 4P (Japanese name to be confirmed) |
| Ammo | Late-game ammunition |
| Features | Ranged damage. Watch ammunition and gunpowder costs, plus distance management |
This is the build for players who want to fight only at range. Reliable Musket has easy-to-understand strengths: 600 piercing, Precision S, fast reload, and +20% critical damage. In boss fights you can keep your distance, but ammunition cost and reload timing become its weaknesses.
Provisional Picks Before Building a Set
This is not a fully measured DPS ranking, but a provisional list of “if you are unsure in real play, start around here.”
| Rank | Weapon/set | What to look at |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 破壊のレイピア / Rapier of Devastation + ドレイクの二連式ピストル / Drake’s Double-Barreled Pistol | Vulnerable, Plague Marks, and 40% healing mesh well. For late-game bosses |
| 2 | 信頼できるマスケット銃 / Reliable Musket | 600 piercing, Precision S, fast reload. The core of ranged builds |
| 3 | 疫病のハルバード / Plague Halberd | Group fights, special attacks, and 35% healing. A candidate for Strength builds |
| 4 | 千切りのレイピア / Rapier of a Thousand Cuts | Up to 125 DPS from Bleed and temporary health recovery. Strong up to the entrance of late game |
| 5 | ドラゴンブレス / Dragon’s Breath | 60% fire explosion for group fights. Single-target boss DPS still needs real measurement |

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Should I Aim for Rapier of a Thousand Cuts from the Early Game?
Use it if you find it; do not target-farm it. Rather than getting stuck by assuming fixed acquisition, it is more realistic to progress with a Rapier + pistol line and switch if it drops.
Q. Which Is Stronger, Rapier of a Thousand Cuts or Rapier of Devastation?
Rapier of a Thousand Cuts is better in the early to midgame, while Rapier of Devastation is better in the late game. Thousand Cuts is strong because it maintains Bleed, while Devastation is strong because it consumes Plague Marks with heavy attacks for damage and 40% healing.
Q. Which Gun Is Better, Reliable Pistol or Drake’s Double-Barreled Pistol?
For everyday use, Reliable Pistol; for bosses and late-game combos, Drake’s. A three-shot exploration gun and a support gun that applies 15% Vulnerable fill different roles.
Q. Can I Fight with Ranged Weapons Only?
Reliable Musket makes that possible. However, ammunition and gunpowder costs, reloads, and distance management are all heavy. It is easier if you keep a light melee weapon for safety.
Q. Should I Just Look at DPS Rankings?
It is better not to. In Windrose, stamina, reloads, attack animations, and enemy openings quickly break DPS tables. For melee in particular, “can you land it safely?” matters more.
Closing
If it were me, I would lean into Precision with a Rapier + pistol line in the early game. If I found Rapier of a Thousand Cuts, I would consider upgrading it to Epic, then in the late game switch to Rapier of Devastation or Reliable Musket. That flow is the least confusing.
That said, Windrose is still in Early Access. Weapon performance and Japanese names may change in patches, so I will update this article when updates arrive.
