At the moment, it looks like Deadlock does not let you change the maximum FPS directly from the in-game settings, and by default it seems to behave like it just outputs as many frames as it can.
From what I experienced while playing, when the FPS limit was not set, the FPS would suddenly drop during fights or heavy scenes, causing stutters. There were also times when the GPU could not keep up and the client crashed.
There was also a report in Bug Reports on the official forum about GPU usage reaching 80–100% even on the lowest settings.
In that thread, it says you can fix the issue by pressing F7 to open the console and entering fps_max [value].
That said, opening the console and typing the command every time you launch the game is a hassle. I do think it is a good way to check how high of an FPS your setup can sustain stably, though.
As a more permanent fix, this time I will share how to configure it through Steam launch options.
You can set it by adding +fps_max [value] to Steam launch options like this.
Unless you have a very high-end setup, I recommend setting this.
Update
With the 9/12 update, it became possible to set the FPS limit from the in-game UI. https://forums.playdeadlock.com/threads/09-12-2024-update.27974/ Added Maximum FPS Sliders for Dashboard and In-Game
Well, it was honestly becoming unplayable, so I guess it was bound to be fixed.
