I Bought an Okamura Contessa seconda to Build the Ultimate Remote Work Setup

Published:

I recently moved to a new place, and to build the ultimate remote work setup, I bought the ultimate chair: the “Okamura Contessa seconda CC85ZS-FPG1”.

Purchased from kagg.jp

It costs over 300,000 yen if you buy it from Okamura’s official website, but I was able to get it for about 220,000 yen from a site called kagg.jp.

At first I wondered if it was really okay, but apparently kagg.jp specializes in e-commerce without physical stores, keeps fixed costs and labor costs down, and cuts out intermediary costs by procuring from the manufacturer or having items shipped directly after orders are placed. That seems to be how they sell at lower prices.

Options I added to the Contessa seconda

  • Large fixed headrest
  • Adjustable arms
  • With lumbar support
  • No hanger

The chair arrived

A properly shiny, brand-new one arrived.

It came fully assembled, delivered in a ridiculously huge cardboard box that obviously would not fit through the entrance, but without me even saying anything, the delivery people opened it in front of the entrance and took the cardboard trash away too. Maybe that is just their delivery rule? Either way, it helped a lot.

Impressions

It is extremely comfortable to sit in.

It gave me that “so this is what a 300,000-yen chair feels like” feeling.

The lumbar support was pretty good. When I sit deeply, the support hits my lower back, so my back feels much more comfortable. This feels essential.

I thought it is probably better to add the adjustable arms if you can. Because you can change the height, you can match them to any desk. Conversely, without adjustable arms, if they hit the desk, you end up having to adjust only with the chair height, which I think would be inconvenient.

I do not really lean back in chairs very much, so honestly I felt like I did not need the headrest. When I tried leaning back, though, it was very comfortable for resting. If you sleep in your chair, I think it is worth adding.
