You can now earn V Points when paying Money Forward ME Premium service fees with a Sumitomo Mitsui Card.
Pay Money Forward ME Premium service fees with a Sumitomo Mitsui Card and get 10% back in V Points.
That sounded perfect for someone like me who lives in the V Points ecosystem! I had been subscribed through the App Store subscription, but I started planning to switch to credit card payment.
However, when changing the payment method for a Premium membership, there is a point where you temporarily return to the free plan. At that point I was told to reduce the number of linked accounts, so I could not proceed. This is a note on how I worked around that hassle.

Money Forward ME allows up to four linked financial-related services on the free plan.
What I Did
-
From App Store subscription management, stop renewing Money Forward ME (turn off auto-renewal)
-
Wait until the subscription period ends
-
Once the period has ended, open the web version of Money Forward ME After logging in, you should see a screen like the one below, so click the premium service information link.
-
Follow the steps to register I chose the annual plan for the Asset Building Advanced Course. I had been on the Standard Course until then, but when I thought about the V Points I would receive, the total felt not that different from what I had been paying before.
Asset Building Advanced Course: 8,770 yen = 10,700 yen - 800 pt (Money Forward bonus) - 1,070 pt (Sumitomo Mitsui bonus) Standard Course: 6,490 yen (the previous price, without counting V Points)

I was also able to confirm it on my iPad
It Looks Like There Is an Official Method Now
I noticed this after updating, but the web version now has an official procedure for switching to credit card payment.
I had never opened Money Forward on the web, so I did not notice it… Actually, when I checked about half a year ago, I feel like this feature was not there.
If you are switching now, the official procedure is probably the best way to do it.
That is all: a memo that even a slightly hacky process like mine worked.
